Yeah. I can do with out his voice over....I don't like the way he takes 4:30 minutes to get off the melody....Otherwise I like his improv...but hurry it up.

What Keith does is ... ( 4 months ago by manualdemise)
What Keith does is not following the rhythm of the song so much as creating a rhythm for the sentiment of the song. I like the way he lives in the song and asks no more than "take my hand" so you can live it too. That's jazz as it's supposed to be. Songs or tunes with no time limits or creative ceilings. It's over when the last note's played.
people, this is a ... ( 4 months ago by lezgon)
people, this is a classic performance in every way. The lyricism and intensity, the perfect sync between the players. If you can't pay the price of Jarrett's vocalizations for his total immersion in the music, too bad. It's a small price for such superb playing, true both to the beauty of the tune itself and to the expansive freedom of jazz.

I totally agree. In fact I like his vocals, his movements his expressions, and the awesome way he puts all of himself into every piece he does! Hes my very favorite artist.

The music videos on ... ( 3 months ago by toddbillingsleyguitr)
The music videos on this site always have the most heated debates going on in the comments section, more than political videos even. I've seen everything from the most poetic interpretations of what what the given performer is trying to get across, to the rudest most vile insults known to humanity. I guess this passion is indicative of how deeply music touches every soul. It gets in there and convinces us of something at our deepest core that we then shove down everyones throats, lol

Keith what a guy. Plays beautifully, but such an asshole
think you said it ... ( 3 months ago by timotad)
think you said it real beautifully lezgon-personally i think the whole thing is sublime-and his voice is part of the beauty-as you say that intensity and emotional involvement with a piece is extraordinary-and he and the others offer it as their interpretation in the true spirit of jazz-exactly as it is felt-raw and from the heart-they are playing with their souls
in a time of incredible super slick electronic effects -i think pieces played with this depth of feeling are all too rare
Man, I was thinking ... ( 2 months ago by mrpossibilities)
Man, I was thinking the same thing. It's amazing. There's not a single music video that doesn't have its share of nasty hateful remorseful comments. But I don't think it's really a matter of music hitting the soul of the users. It's just a war of egos most of the times.
thanks, I agree! ( 2 months ago by lezgon)

Love his music, but ... ( 2 months ago by e3charles)
Love his music, but the grunting and gyrations while playing are often disruptive and over dramatized.
Having seen KJ play ... ( 2 months ago by Groovemeister38)
Having seen KJ play in France several times, I can only assume that some of the abusive comments are by people who know little of the work that goes into playing at this level. Would The Trio have stayed together if he was a repugnant as some of the comments suggest? As for the moaning when you see him play live you will realise they occur because he puts his very being into the music. As KJ once said about Miles in an interview, "Miles never forgot the music" and neither does he. Just enjoy!
Dude, how do you ... ( 2 months ago by HammondB200)
Dude, how do you know if it's overdramatized. Maybe his music would be a lot more crap without the moanin'

I don't think Jarrette's music will ever be "crap." My previous comment reflects the opinion of many others. But thanks for your comment.

Yes. Many people feel this way. But you have others who are in denial and claim it's "passion."
It's an unexplained ... ( 2 months ago by trktrt)
It's an unexplained thing but the great Oscar Peterson did the same thing. I think they just get so into the music that they become unaware of who is listening. A lot of the old musicians have this habit. The music is still awesome however.
I love Oscar ... ( 2 months ago by e3charles)
I love Oscar Peterson, and had even planned to see him perform before he passed away suddenly. I never knew Peterson made such noises. If he had, it could not have been as audible as Jarrett's.

No Oscar wasn't as bad as Keith. I have some old tapes and I was surprised to hear it but he had that habit too.

yeah i love his playing, but i too also hate his "vocalisations". but who am i to judge a master at his craft? :)
the vocalisation is ... ( 1 month ago by RollTheBeatz)
the vocalisation is a way to help his mind concentrate on the right hand, which usually plays the 'soloing' part, whilst the left hand plays the bass part. it's a way for the mind to keep the focus, even though the two hands are essentially playing two different pieces.
even if this wasn't the case, you're certainly in no position to judge what he is over dramatising and what he isn't.
yeah, i didn't ... ( 1 month ago by HammondB200)
yeah, i didn't describe it that good. english is not my motherlanguage, i meant: 'without the moaning his music wouldn't this so good'

This is a man that is truly transported by music. Witness and enjoy, instead of criticizing. The highest achievement in jazz is when the musicians can lose themselves and join together through their music, that's when magic occurs. Keith Jarret does it every time because he has the ability to leave his sense of self and merge.
