It is actually David Purley, A fellow Brit and close friend who was only racing his second race as well. He actually received the George Medal (second highest civilian award) for his efforts.

Niki Lauda was pulled out of a burning car at Nurburgring, Germany in 1976 by several drivers. Hunt actually run over to pull Ronnie Peterson out of his burning car in 1978. The 70's was not great for the sport in that there was several fatalities. The worst, in my opinion, is the Tom Pryce crash. My god that is horrific.

non è giusto un uomo debba morire così era la sua prima gara un ragazzo di 25 anni con una vita davanti a se nessuno ha fatto niente per salvarlo se non il suo compagno di squadra!che chissa come si sentiva sentendolo piangere e gridare salvatemi in mezzo le fiamme!(lo ha detto lui stesso che lo sentiva pianger dicendo salvatemi!)i pompieri sono arrivati dopo 8 minuti!che vergogna non hanno fatto niente per salvare la vita ad un essere umano!indegno di ciò che ho visto!la vita è bella!

non meritava di morire nessuno ha fatto nulla per salvarlo!se non il suo compagno di squadra che nessuno la aiutava che dopo la sua morte ha rilasciato 1 intervista dicendo che lo sentiva piangere dicendo salvatemi!vergognoso i soccorsi sono arrivati dopo 8 minuti!perchè un essere umano come tutti deve morire in queste condizioni aveva 25anni una bella vita davanti!:( poverino mi fa pena immaginarlo in mezzo le fiamme se provavano a sollevare la macchina potevano salvarlo!:(mi viene da piangere

i agree backwoodpictures, the tom pryce accident has to be the cruelest of all F1 crashes, not only did the marshall die aswell but the absolute randomness of it... and the fire extiguisher hitting his helmet and getting the chin strap to nearly decapitate pryce, it was worse luck than the suspension arm piercing senna's helmet...
Tom pryce was one of the most natuarally gifted F1 drivers ever and the fact that he was killed by such a pointless accident is absolutely horrible...

Er why? Motorsport is dangerous, thats why anyone doing it at a high level is a fuckin hero and this is an example of that. Williamson knew the risks and it's tragic to see his death along with anyone that pursue such activites but thats life.
Fatalities are shown on the news 24/7 do you object to that? If you don't like it don't watch it.

the medics were HORRIBLE! are you kidding?! they didnt do jack shit. and to make it worse, this was williamson's second race. the driver deserves the credit for trying to save williamson.

i know this could be a rather callous comment.. but isn't that sorta risk that makes motorsport so good to watch or so inspirational to do? i mean f1 hasn't had any proper crashes in ages because of driver safety regs.. the only races worth watchging nowadays is WRC and BTCC.. where ur bound to get smashed up. we need action!
