ROBERT JOHNSON- If I Had Possession Over Judgement Day

Uploaded by: stanleykneecap
Video Description:
In the spirit of the Robert Johnson story, it makes sense that he should have 3 graves.
Today you don't need to bother asking for talent when selling your soul to Satan, or Simon Cowell as he's now known.
Recorded 27/11/1936 in San Antonio, Texas. Available on countless re-issues & compilations.
This song was later reworked into Rollin' & Tumblin' by Muddy Waters.
The 3rd photo is the one recently touted as a newly discovered picture. Last I heard the owner was going to put it up for auction. Anyone got any updates?

its funny how most of us talk about robert and his "selling of his soul" to the devil story, and not 5 minutes after, we deny Gods existence.

Personally, Robert Johnson's music gives me a bit of the heebie-jeebies. It DOES sound very good, and he was talented. But man, his lyrics, I believe them to be the real testimony. Son House even said he left for 6-8 months and came back a master of the blues after not being able to play a lick before. I dunno if it was the Devil or Hoodoo, but something got into that music of his that I never been well acquainted with, and I don't care to get acquainted with it, either.

Sorry I meant it as a joke but after re-reading my comment you might to take umbrage with it. I actually was thinking of the scene in the movie" Oh brother Where art Thou" where Clooneys charactor meets the Guitarist standing at intersecting roads who says he just traded his soul to be a great guitarist. I made the mistake of assuming others would get my point regarding his amazing talent. I have an adapted piece of his music I'm in the process of trying to master. I never met or saw him alive.

His sister said he started playing at age 8. It was normal that the "masters" Son House and Willie would say he sucked at first. When you start in any new scene, peoples ears are closed. So if when he went to Arkanssas for that 8 months he probably met some a dude he really jammed with and learned the open A tuning he uses on all his tunes. His secret was his tunning and would get really pissed if people watche to close to what he was playingl. No devil..just a very talented dude.

he'd been trying to play for a long time but it just wasn't his thing.even his mentor the great blues guitarist, sonhouse said he never thought he would figure it out. nobody but God, Robert, and the devil know if he sold his soul but what is clear is that when he came back , he had become the king of the delta blues, and it's definitely eerie how he never had to practice, and how he surpassed his mentor within months. check out the video"eric clapton talks about jimi hendrix and robert johnson
I don't think he ... ( 5 days ago by Doobierollerz)
I don't think he sold his soul. Ike Zinnerman trained him and taught him everything he knew. He went home and practiced all the time before he got good, and his friend Johnny Shines said that he rarely saw Robert without a guitar in his hand, so the stuff about him never practicing probably has no truth to it.
