thank you for the comment. may i point out, that the indicator "Alain Badiou. Democracy, Politics and Philosophy 2006 1/5" is actually doing that already? "Alain Badiou. Democracy, Politics and Philosophy 2006 1/5" is basically standing for the lecture "Democracy, Politics and Philosophy" by Alain Badiou, given in 2006, Part 1 of 5. I hope this helps. Thank you.

philosopy was not an invention of the ancient greeks. what were confucius and mencius for example? it is surprising to hear this claim still being given credence.

philosophy as a ... ( 8 months ago by koeilewis)
philosophy as a concept means "the love of knowledge", which is not an invention of the greeks. but philsophy as a subject taught under the banner of "philosophy" was firstly a greek institution. confucius wasn't around before thales, who is said to be the first "philsopher". buddha was around the same time as pythagoras.

the greeks did first define and develop modern philosophy. And they can probably be said to have largley originated western philosophy.
some of pythagoras's ideas seem to have come from buhda sp. there was much trade and commerce going through athens at that time so sure some egyptian, phonecian and even indian thought made it's way into the great market place of ideas that was athens in 500 bce. plus the freedom of democracy and plenty of free time brought about by wealth and douli helped.

is there a youtube competitor that doesn't censor.! YT or the government is censoring. youtube who i censoring?
philosophy does not mean The LOVE of wisdom.
i think cunfucious was roughly contemporary with or a little later then anaxagoras of militus/samos.
but certainly indus civilization did trickle into greek thought. for sure. but it was more under the umbrella of religion then a scientific understanding of the world. greeks developed western philosophy with a ton of input from others.

In direct translations of φιλíα one often places 'friendship' but we need to take care to remember that the word is far broader than our word 'friendship' and can include much else besides including the relationship between lovers, parents and children, business contacts, and war time companions.
σοφία here is easily translated as 'wisdom' but it can also be translated as 'knowledge' if we remember that the sort of knowledge indicated is of a higher sort than common knowledge.

"1-person 1-vote" ... ( 3 months ago by kinvicchah)
"1-person 1-vote" is the problem. It is the same old political ideas with different people. People suffer more and more, corruption and embezzlement is on the rise and the gap between the minority rich and the majority poor keeps on widening. I think the democratic reform idea that says: "the more you earn, the less your vote counts and vice versa" is the best for now. It is called VOTE SIZING and I recommend everyone to find out about this.
