Wikipedia is actually a decent source according to an honors level English teacher who went to Dartmouth College. Usually only for quick facts. It has editors that go through and examine each article carefully and research it to make sure the addition/entry is valid, so it is valid to certain degree. But obviously common sense and basic discretion have to be used.

Thats why Wikipedia opens up for the process of cross-referencing, including the little sources posted at the bottom of ALMOST every wiki page. I am in high school, and I am also in one level below honors. I think I am quite capable of cross-referencing, its very simple to do. Yet somewhat time consuming. Wikipedia is a good place to start for sources for just about anything if you are stuck. However, it is not valid for expert testimony, especially when writing expository or persuasive essays.
