Coming from the other direction, grew up with the BSTears version, never knew it was a Traffic original. You always prefer what you grew up with. David Clayton Thomas, of course, adds some punch to the vocals (not to diss Winwood -- I respect him). Not sure if the BST version is on YouTube, but for a rare and great example of DCT's vocal power, search for David Clayton Thomas and the Bossmen and select the one with the picture of the 45 centre -- it's a ripping number called Brainwashed.

I agree, Wonkavella. If you like raw Winwood -- and who doesn't? -- search for the Spencer Davies Group - I'm a Man. It's a live studio performance from 1967. Winwood sounds a bit ragged -- maybe ill or tired -- but the performance as a whole is outstanding.

(chuckling while identifying with comments) yeah, but look at it like this...in some ways you're still, we're still, who we were, and more...back then, we hadn't become more of ourselves...Now, we have...nothing has really been lost...time, is an illusion. back then, there was no way to see what we have learned since, the journey would have been much different, maybe much less precious, if we really knew.
