The influx of paleo-conservatives into the libertarian movement is somewhat troubling. Not because I dislike people who once held certain views and changed their minds. But because a lot of them are keeping their old views while at the same time calling themselves libertarians. Their watering down what libertarianism is supposed to mean.

The socialists were caught up in what was a true socialist for years. It's just plain silly to shun paleoconservatives. They might not be Rothbardians (though I am almost) but they are fellow travelers.
One should be able to do whatever one wants without infringing on the rights of others. That is libertarianism. Lot-o paleos believe this even if the style is a little off.

I'm not shunning them. I'm just saying that libertarianism shouldn't water it's self down so the paleo-cons can jump on board. True libertarianism is not and should not be a "big tent" movement. They might agree with us on some issues like ending the interventionist foreign policy and getting rid of welfare. But they disagree with us on issues like free trade and drug legalization.

Thats where I would disagree deeply mi amigo. There are many conservatives who hate the drug war.
There was a time when conservatism, pre Eisenhower, when conservative and libertaian were one and the same.
Don't let the statists set the playing field. There is nothing "conservative" about the expansion of federal agencies like the DEA.
People forget. Good old fashioned down home conservatives (in another era) would have vomited at the prospect of a federal drug regulatory agency!

RezaDemocrat: The cost of our foreign policy is measured in the TRILLIONS. The cost of supporting mexicans on our welfare programs is measured at most in the tens of billions. The cost of enforcement would mean that we wouldn't even save that much money.
The best fiscal option would be to eliminate the costly foreign policy spending AND the welfare programs.

I think most paleo-conservatives want to end the drug war and want REAL free trade, not NAFTA or CAFTA government managed trade! Paleos are VERY libertarian. The question is, how much can a party pulling 1% really do for a nation? The libertarian party needs to not only funnel these extra votes in but they need to continue educating people on the liberty message. Why not cutdown the anarchists that are in the libertarian party? They don't even believe in property rights.... Peace!

Good vid! I agree that the neoconservatives are even worse than liberals! Not only are they for war they are also the big government leftists. Even Bush spent more money than any democrat ever(not even including military expenses). Democracy is killing our liberty minded constitutional democratic-republic and my channel clearly explains how. Peace!

If the paleo-cons are against the drug war you sure don't hear them talking about it as much as libertarians do. I think it's more their against the drug war on a federal level but not so much if was waged on a state by state level.
What do you mean the free market anarchists in the Libertarian Party don't believe in property rights? Their the only ones that take the non-aggression principal seriously.

I am not talking about free market anarchists, I am talking about the true anarchists that do not believe the people should even have property rights at all. These people are few and far between and number as many paleo-conservatives for the war on drugs. My point is, MANY paleos I meet are against the war on drugs.....as many as anarchists are against property rights(which are actually very few). Ya know, its this reason the libertarian principles are hard to advance,we always fight each other.

Based on that I could only assume you were talking about market anarchists. Since market anarchists or possibly mutualists are the only kind of anarchists who would ever join the Libertarian Party or subscribe to libertarian ideals in general. Social anarchists (many of whom are really just state-socialists) would never join the Libertarian Party.

It is true that many of the movements earlier leaders have ties to the Troskyites however on it's way over to the right the ideology mutated so much that you could hardly be justified in saying it was "communist" in anyway. I've heard some accuse it of right-wing authoritarianism however you can have that and still be conservative -just a very weird kind of conservative.

That is a valid response. However the Constitution of the US is incredibely radical and empowering document. The fact that it holds that all men are created equal-and thus undermines the 3/5ths clause from the beginning-is a testement to it's deeply challenging tone. The Consitution empowered the individual in contrast to almost all political documents before it. Liberty is forward looking. Polical correctness and stateism is just another form of thousands of years of tyrany.
