To Mark1379: How does the plus/minus stat not proven much?? Huh? Do you know anything about hockey? It is the best indicator of a player's effective defense, combined with that player's ability on offense. That is what hockey is all about!

Why can't you admit lidstrom is the greatest defenseman of our generation, hands down in all catagories, especially clutch play. Although some people believe he's as good as orr I do have to respectfully disagree as I'm sure the Orr fanboys would.
Also, what other stat is more indicative of defensive prowess than +/-? You've got no other quantitative way to measure it. All you've got to go on beyond that is personal opinion. Good two way players have a good plus minus, that's a fact.

Career highs: 46 goals in 1975, 102 assists, 139 points, and +124 in 1971
Total career: 915 points in 657 games. +597
8 Norris, 2 Conn Smythe, 3 Hart, 2 Art Ross, and the Calder
ALL IN A 12 YEAR CAREER.
I know all the 13 year old fan boys jerking off to Nick Lidstrom don't like seeing Orr's name credited as "Best defencemen of all time" but the stats are unmatchable.
