This song is about ... ( 11 months ago by ngilotti)
This song is about a beautiful, rural place that JT frequented near his hometown, where he had many special moments. He talks about going back as an adult and finding spec homes built there...but his memories are still intact. This is a great rendition, with the fiddle providing just the right touch of southern Americana....thanks JT. You sound just as good as you did in the 60's!!

I think you guys might have it backwards, actually. The soil in the area around Chapel Hill, NC (where JT was raised) is all red dirt clay. Given the coloring of the soil, the people (yes, even the old folks, haha) called that area the copperline. Perhaps the railroad was named b/c it ran through that area. Either way, it's just a nostalgic look at an old familiar place with all of those characteristics that make it home-sweet-home. A wonderful song, whatever the etymology of the name.
