A question is asked about the Ryan Commission report on child abuse within institutions run by the religious orders in Ireland. After the panel had spoken the questioner responded and his response...well see for yourself. Just a note, but my apologies for the ragged nature of the end of the piece. Editing wasn't very good with the late hour. You can read a transcript here. http://willknott.ie/2009/05/26/michael-obrien-transcript/

Noel Dempsey you and your ilk should be hanged in public . you sat and you knew that Michael O`brian spoke nothing but the truth, yet you just sat there like a scalded child. or was that all show? how much dirty money is lining your pockets for saying nothing? Michael you should be made a saint . I wished you were running for the british prime minister you would certainly get my vote. No amount of money or apologies will ever heal those poor victims . The catholic curch is satans church.

There are still people working in childrens homes in ireland, who worked at the time the Brothers were abuseing children, they use watch what happend and did noting or they used to get the Brothers to beat you, why are they still there they are guilty as well. and to all you do gooders who shout thats was bad, why do you not do something at the time ireland knew what was going on, it all reminds me of WW2 where every one in Germany said after the war we did not know or we did not like Hitler,
The world would be such as better place if only they had the strength and the brains to follow your good advice.

I think we had it right in England when we decided to break from Rome and drink tea
Does anyone have this guy's address? I need to write to him. his has to be one of the most powerful pieces of oratory I've ever seen. I've cried a it.
Anyways the wider issue here is not even what happened and this goes back to my point. It's allowing it to happen in the first place. The same applies to the widespread corruption in political life. People consistently elected appallingly corrupt officials into government not for months or years but decades and just like the abuse, observant people DID speak out about it from the earliest times but the masses closed their ears and held their tongues and went to mass and waved their flags.
Everyone is guilty in someones eyes. Guilty by choosing not to hear any more when they had heard enough from those who DID speak out. Guilty by being naive enough to believe these people had their best interests at heart. Guilty of just being so darn conservative and consistently electing corrupt and facist politicians who used the cosy church state relationship to keep things the way they always were and not upset De Valera's appalling vision of an isolationist catholic utopian state.
ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS question those in charge. NEVER blindly accept what they tell you. ALWAYS be suspicious of those who promote collectivism. DO engage in critical thinking even if it runs against the grain and questions the Status Quo. NEVER join a group and blindly accept their doctrine if it or parts of it don't tally with science or common sense. DO be prepared to be an individual even if this makes you unpopular with those around you and finally again - ALWAYS question those in charge.
You can say that anyone with knowledge of this hideous evil & did not act on it are implicated by guilt of ommision. These can be anyone in the gardai, various political parties etc. whoever. But in comparision to those who knew nothing the number is miniscule, the people of Ireland were decieved by this evil institution & have been for centuries as I have previously posted, this is my last post here. I reitirate the call for us to break the link with rome once & for all, cast them all out.
You are doing it again, you are generalising & condeming people who had no knowledge or inclination of what happened here. Can you explain to me please how voting for conservative parties inclined towards the roman church laid guilt on our hands for the abuse of certain members of that institution. They did not state publicly that they abused children for heavens sake. The vast majority of people thought them to be kind individuals with our interests at heart.
The people need to bear more responsibility. A huge majority consistently voted for the most conservative forces in politics who were deferential to the church while people with real vision like Noel Browne were cast to the sidelines. This enabled the church state relationship as you mentioned to flourish long past it's sell by date so everything from education to contraception was decided on by the church. So ok not every single person is responsible but a very large number had a part to play.
@GuyAwoke What i stated is clear historical facts not insinuating anything, Rome as you put it influenced & were deeply involved in all spheres of government & authority in this state, but the individuals who perpetrated this evil are responsible as well as those who hid it, to suggest the entire people of Ireland are responsible as you have said is nonsense. Research your facts before posting stupid comments in future.
Don't try to deflect responsibility from the Irish people for what happened. Reinventing history won't do anything. This was a 20th century issue and it was the Irish capacity for collective thought and group conformity that allowed this to happen, regardless of who did it. The church facilitated it but the individuals who did it acted alone and they were known about from the very beginning but no one listened so don't try to export the sole responsibility to *Rome* or any other body.
This has gone on for centuries, this vile institution has used & abused Irish people for centuries, the most evil crime of all is child abuse. They also gave england permission to invade ireland in 1169 & gave their kings title Lord of Ireland. Also, they gave William of Orange pipers to let into battle against the Irish in 1690 at the boyne. You can believe in the Lord and not have anything to do with Rome. People of Ireland, break connection with Rome now. lets have our own reformation
Ireland slowly but surely growing up. There will be more of this to come out in the years to come. It's funny that the people who are saying things like *I'm never going to mass again* and *makes me ashamed to be Irish*....are the same people who made life so miserable for my humanist father all those years ago. The majority of Irish people are predisposed towards collectivism and group thought, which is a politician's dream but a nightmare for individuals and freethinkers.
i m not going to mass/ church ever again they should......ooooooo
i wanted to hug that man so much...why does the catholic church constantly insist on turning a blind eye?? thank you for the subtitles as being hard of hearing i miss alot of what people say. and why cant i find the ryan report anywhere to read??
(2 of 2) Ruth Kelly, a member of Opus Dei, left 88 known sex offenders teaching the children of Britain for 7 months after being informed of the fact as Minister for Education. MP's expenses? Tony Mc.Nulty £45,000 Catholic, Jacqui Smith, husbands porn video amongst other things, Catholic, Hazel Blears, excuse me while I throw up, the list goes on......... The Vatican is a private bank guarded by the Swiss that sodomises the children of the world, what has this to do with Christianity?
