Sam Harris At Idea CIty '05

@DishonostyFromHarris That's because you don't need to believe in anything to meditate. Meditation is not an act of faith but an act of mental relaxation. Besides do you really think the people he is talking to knows much about eastern religions compared to western ones?

The Luke 19 comment is incorrect. Jesus says that a king in a story made this proclamation. Jesus Himself never says to bring someone to Him and kill him in front of Him.

    God sucks

You also don't take notice of the fact that in most cases, you don't see monks strapping bombs to their chest and running into crowds of people or committing crusades against their fellow man. Your screen name is false. Just because you don't agree doesn't make Sam Harris wrong, it makes you closed to his facts. (Not Ideas)

@TAXtheAtheist I'm pretty sure the Pope has the copyright on "spiritual ponzi schemes"

  6. Mar 8, 2010 at 03:30 PM by qaplatlhinganmaH

you must not know anything about Sam Harris, he takes aim at zen buddhism and it's support of of ww2, and in the talk believing the unbelievable he attacks absurd claims by buddhist gurus

  7. Mar 8, 2010 at 09:46 AM by DishonostyFromHarris

Sam Harris picks on western religions such as Judaism/Christianity/Islam but refuses to pick on eastern religions like Shintoism and Buddhism. In fact he talks about preying with Buddhist monks in Nepal. How can you claim that western religions are wicked but eastern ones arent? Shinto monks did the Tokyo subway attacks and Buddhist have been fighting for slavery in Tibet for years. Harris really isn't an atheist.

@astronivo20XX, Sam harris is a shyster. Much in the likeness of fellow secular jew Bernie Madoff, Sam runs a 'spiritual ponzi scheme'.

Who would challenge him? A religious guy who believes he has more reasonable arguments? Also, I don't see why you would call him dishonest whereas the truth is he is being more honest than anyone else, especially believers. He is smart, articulate, and persuasive.

He is so on at 12:00.

    go ahead, we're waiting...

Sam Harris is a funny guy. He drastically underestimates the deep darkness of the human heart. All through history people have taken good , inventive ideas and used them for evil. The new aggressive atheist is setting the stage for an ethnic/religious cleansing that will make the holocaust look like a picnic, And just like others that came before, Sams picture or writings wont be allowed in public or in schools.....after its too late. Hey everybody Sam is awesome...He;s my hero......ha ha ha

Careful, audience. This is purely propagandaspeak. Pan back, have a look at it. He is advocating a homogeny of viewpoint...on a global level. Gee, where have I been seeing that all over the mass media in the past few years? It's the new secular order rearing its ugly head. Asshats such as Harris are the mouthpieces of its philosophy. The intolerance and violence to which he refers are ultimately personal choices. Morally bankrupt? Try every atheist regime in history.

    Yes. Yes, he massively does.

@TAX - I am still waiting for your answer. You wanted a verse, I gave you one. Are you running from this point? I suspect that you are because your book is false. So, again. Please point to me the exact part of the bible that clearly defines how to tell a witch from a non witch. Without that, the bible is contradictory with regard to witches/demons and their existence. They do not exist.

  16. Mar 3, 2010 at 05:36 AM by jpinsonjr

He just reminds me so much of ben stiller.

  17. Mar 3, 2010 at 02:50 AM by TalladegaTom

Exodus 22:18 So, according to your dangerous and dirty text, we are all supposed to kill witches when we see them. But how is one to judge? What criteria does the 'good' book require when determining who should be killed as a witch and who is not? Specific bible verse please...

  18. Mar 2, 2010 at 10:17 PM by boorens18

@TAXtheAtheist sounds like talladegatom is right Tax....can you provide the verse for him? Otherwise it looks like you are wrong.

  19. Mar 2, 2010 at 06:13 PM by TAXtheAtheist

    specific Bible verse please...

  20. Mar 2, 2010 at 10:26 AM by TalladegaTom

Nope, clearly in the example I quoted you the bible is VERY contradictory. I am stating that the bible IS contradictive and gave you a specific example of such. Don't know how you can come to any other conclusion other than that, unless you are simply being obtuse. Maybe you mis understood. Please point to me to the exact part of the bible that clearly defines how to tell a witch from a non witch. Without that, the bible is contradictory with regard to witches and their existence.

  21. Mar 2, 2010 at 07:35 AM by TAXtheAtheist

Yes, the Bible does not contradict itself, as you boast. Anybody saying the Bible is contradictive, is like saying an Automobile is contradictive but needing 'fire & water' to operate. ( ie.Gasoline and Engine coolant)

  22. Mar 2, 2010 at 03:43 AM by TalladegaTom

@ TAX... - You make the claim that the bible does not contradict itself. The useless book of Exodus demands that "Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live". People to this day are using that line from your 'good' book to judge other people dubbed as a witch. Those judged guilty get tortured or killed. Can you point to where in the bible there is a clear and non contradictory definition on how one is to tell the difference between a witch and a non witch?

  23. Mar 1, 2010 at 02:58 PM by honkyxadonis

just seems strange to me, you are a christian correct?

  24. Mar 1, 2010 at 06:20 AM by TAXtheAtheist

    Adjective, nothing more.

  25. Mar 1, 2010 at 03:59 AM by honkyxadonis

you know, i have no info on sam harris and otherwise might have taken what you said at face value but, the fact you chose to reffer to him as a secular jew suggests to me that you r a christian hell-bent on discrediting him because he reasons that your beliefs are nonsense
