Once someone makes points as serious as Stewart makes and Presidential candidates appear on his show, his show by default becomes more serious than a simple comedy show. Whether Stewart admits it or not, his show has become more serious than just comedy. He wouldn't appear on news shows like this if he thought his political opinion was unimportant. And once you jump in there, you gotta back it up. Dismissing his challengers by saying he is only a comedian is kind of getting old.

It's not the ONLY reason it was cancelled, but it definetly played a huge part in it.

  10. Mar 7, 2010 at 06:01 PM by SMK121

"You know it's funny, your as much of a dick on your show"

  11. Mar 7, 2010 at 05:03 PM by mark224

I'd be happy to elaborate. Since 2006 Jon Stewart has become more of political commentator than a comedian. I think he makes more of an effort to make a poltical point than make people laugh. His jokes get more applause than laughter. The Daily Show could should be on MSNBC not Comedy Central.

how silly of you to realize you take yourself way to seriously this is the internet grow the fuck up

  15. Mar 7, 2010 at 12:54 AM by Ath1337isDerek

How silly of me to give such a perception of coherence & normalcy. Maybe someday I will develop the ability to surmise the totally of ones existence by reading an opinion on YouTube. Curious how I am targeted rather then my comment :P

The thing I have a problem with is that CNN claims to be holding people responsible for the truth, but aren't. People like John Stewart DO NOT claim to do anything like that, but they end up doing a better job. Why? Because jokes only work if a lot of people like them, and to some extent agree. In that way John holds an insight that CNN will NEVER obtain.

  17. Mar 7, 2010 at 12:07 AM by delli4

he says he is a comedian first and citizen second, not all comedian

  18. Mar 7, 2010 at 12:07 AM by delli4

lmao, John Stewart is a smart man.

Comedy is simply another format to present politics in an entertaining or humorous manner & it can still be of worth to public discourse. Other examples, Bill Mahr Whoopie Goldberg Dennis Miller There's 3 good examples of comedians who used their fame from being a comic to having a serious platform.

Oh no... another neo-con who doesn't understand the meaning of "ad hominem" (much less the spelling). Big words are for grown-ups boy. Learn English first and then give Latin a try.

its amazing how articulate he is and how he can deconstruct these to like this

  24. Mar 6, 2010 at 02:48 PM by zgilly145

@americanguy2328 But at the same time it's not his obligation to take a stance and offer serious points on these important and relevant issues. In this case, he's offering a critique on the way in which these guys offer their own points and stances: aka the medium that they use (TV). In my opinion, he's more than qualified to take a serious stance on that issue because of his role and experience in the medium.

he could have done so much better. what a wasted opportunity.
