thats simple shelter, fire, and learn how to purify water.and learn about wild edibles for food. or learn how to caught fish or hunt.

cool man i wish you the best of luck. before you head out for good make sure that you pick up a book called the peterson field guide. trust me it will help out a lot as far as food goes. and also make sure that you know how to make shelter, purify water and make fire. then it will be all good peace.

It was a joke. But if you're still curious what it means, google "cool-headed logicians" and Ted Kaczynski".

hello all! i clearly see that many are inspired by this guy (RIP Dick), and I just wanted to say that this is something i will be doing this year. no, it's not to alaska, and no, i'm not in the same league as this guy, and no way am i like mr. supertramp. i am carefully planning, and not rushing into it. a bold attempt is half success. therefore, this "attempt" had better be done correctly. check out my blog leavingtolivewithnature on blogspot. i've had it with society, and i'm ready to head out

wtf does that mean, and who said im going to montana

  13. Mar 6, 2010 at 12:32 AM by Masowai

If you say to hell with society and move to the Montana wilderness, just don't start writing letters complaining about "cool-headed logicians".

    ...it is still possible...

Lonely and quiet place? Finally! I've been looking for a place like that forever.

i know i wanna live in the wilderness for the rest of my life, i don't wanna work anymore, i don't want money, who here wants to live in the wilderness like i do, we could live near a stream catch fish learn to hunt learn what plants are edible, we would procure our food and water and relax the rest of the day, working in society is boring and stressful, i really have no interest in living in society anymore

i know I could build a cabin with just my two hands and some hand tools, but some of the things he does like ripping boards would be might touhgt, I could do it but not as pretty or nearly as efficient as Mr Proeneke

@jdmusic07 Dick worked very physical jobs....farming, heavy machine operater, diesel mechanic and carpenter.

@jerami101 I agree. I'd definetly use a solar powered charger...not so sure Dick would!! :)

the berries werent poisonous, they had a fungus on them...but yeah that was pretty foolish

  24. Feb 27, 2010 at 03:39 PM by CupofPhenol

Chris McCandless was a fool - he wandered off into the wilderness, found an old bus to live in, then died after poisonous berries, which he had no business eating in the first place, especially if he didn't know what kind of berries they were. Yeah, give him a ton of respect..

@arsdag81 Absolutely! I worked making cabinets for 13 yrs, and I have great appreciation for the time it takes to do it the old fashioned way. If I were in his shoes today, I would have a solar battery charger with me, and use cordless tools a lot!
